Youth Peer Leader: Seasonal, May 2020 to September 2020

Description: The Youth Peer Leader (Peer Leader) will be responsible for assisting Grow Binghamton, a 6-week teen employment program on urban farms and gardens in Binghamton. The Peer Leader will be part of a supervisory team that includes the Youth Program Manager, Urban Farm Manager, VINES Americorps member, and youth Crew Leaders. The Peer Leader will supervise 20 youth and assist in hosting trainings with all youth at once and in smaller groups. In addition to time spent with youth, the Peer Leader will assist in the youth hiring process, participate in choosing activities, and execute portions of the Grow Binghamton Curriculum.

INTERNSHIP POSITIONS: Summer 2020 and/or Fall 2020

Urban Farm Internship, Summer 2020 Description: The Urban Farm Intern will assist in the day to day work required during the growing season on an urban farm built on formerly vacant lots in downtown Binghamton. Responsibilities include general garden and orchard care, working with community members and community partner organizations, and working with other VINES staff to ensure a successful growing season. The intern will learn how to do more complicated farm tasks such as soil fertility management, crop planning, and a diversity of other agricultural techniques.

Farm Share Food Systems Internship, Summer and/or Fall 2020 Description:This internship focuses on Farm Share, a VINES program that connects residents of all income levels to fresh produce from local farmers. It involves direct service in the community addressing food justice, agriculture, and community engagement. Main responsibilities include interacting with community members to distribute local produce at the same time and place each week, providing support and education to participants, processing payment including EBT (food stamp) transactions, and tracking customers. Other duties include assisting in preparation for distribution, member nutrition education, outreach and marketing. Candidate should have strong written and oral communications skills, interest in nutrition/health and wellness, social justice and be an organized, detail-oriented individual capable of working independently. Intern must be available Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Must also have reliable transportation, the ability to lift 50lbs, and some experience with cooking. Preference will be given to applicants who can intern in both the summer and fall.
