Community Compost Sites – beginning operation in 2026.
IMPORTANT – READ BEFORE APPLYING
The VINES Community Composter guidelines outline the responsibilities for volunteers acting as liaisons between community members and the organization. Key points include:
Volunteer Commitment: Participation requires a mandatory commitment of at least one hour per month from April through November for site maintenance (e.g., turning piles, mowing).
Facilitator Role: Volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation set by their Compost Facilitator.
Operational Rules: Composters must ensure piles are covered with brown material (leaves, wood chips) after maintenance. Unauthorized purchases will not be reimbursed, and community garden members should not pick crops from others’ beds without permission.
What Cannot Be Composted: Prohibited items include diseased plants, invasive species, animal products (meat, dairy, fish), oil/grease, pet waste, painted/treated wood, non-biodegradable items (plastic, glass, metal), and glossy paper.
Behavioral Standards: The policy strictly prohibits sexual harassment and misuse of garden spaces for political, religious, or private promotional activities.
