Volunteer with VINES


In 2007 VINES was created by a group of dedicated volunteers and continues to thrive with the help of an active volunteer base. We are always seeking a team of motivated long-term volunteers to help with several different projects. If you have a skill or interests not listed in one of our volunteer opportunities, please fill out the volunteer sign-up form and let us know how you would like to help.

General Volunteer Opportunities

All interested volunteers are asked to please fill out our sign-up form.

Farm Share Pick-Up Sites: assisting in the distribution of vegetable boxes at designated pick-up sites and interacting with people picking up their veggie boxes each week. Accept payment, share recipe tips, and track customers. For more information regarding volunteering with farm share please email Kate at Farmshare@vinesgardens.org

Urban Farm Volunteer: Help build the sustainability and production of VINES’ Urban Farm by harvesting vegetables and fruits as well as weeding, moving soil, watering, composting, and planting as needed. Volunteers are invited to take home extra garden produce.

Community Garden Builds: Join us in constructing new community gardens on vacant lots. Assemble wooden raised beds & fill them with soil and compost as well as develop perennial flower beds to beautify the space. Most builds occur in the fall.

Community Meal Volunteers: Sign up for a meal preparation or serving shift for a VINES-hosted community meal every 5th Tuesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Binghamton. The next community meal. 

 

Upcoming Volunteer Dates

Urban Farm & CHOW Farm

Open workdays on the Urban Farm will be on Thursdays from 9-12  at 16 Tudor St. Binghamton, NY

Open Workdays on the CHOW Farm on Wednesdays from 1-4 PM at 22 Lawrence Ave, Conklin 

Tasks include: Picking and washing vegetables, preparing for farm share season, weeding, watering, planting, compost maintenance etc.

June 5th & 6th , 9 AM – 4 PM (two days & 2 shifts per day)

Two shifts: 9AM-12PM and 1-4PM If you are interested in learning about building a hog-wire fence (an easy, beautiful and affordable fence design) and helping beautify this space. RSVP here: https://goo.gl/h5Sivj but if you don’t RSVP, we’ll welcome any help!

Pine Street Beautification
June 8th, 4-7 PM

Help VINES beautify and reclaim one of our oldest community gardens on Pine Street in downtown Binghamton. Together we will be working on beautifying the lot cleaning up some brush and planting perennials and pollinator-attracting plants. We have lots to clip and prune. We will have some available, but please feel free to bring your favorite pruners or clippers!

Mather Street Beautification

Help VINES beautify the Mather St Community Garden in Binghamton at 26 Mather Street. We will be working on beautifying the lot and planting perennials and pollinator-attracting native plants for a healthy ecosystem.

VINES Community Meal

VINES is looking for volunteers to prepare and serve a community meal on Tuesday, May 29th at the United Presbyterian Church located at 42 Chenango St in Binghamton.

Interested volunteers should RSVP no later than Friday the 25th. Include your full name, email address, phone number, and the shift you would like to volunteer for. Volunteers who sign up will will receive a confirmation email with directions to the church. Please send any questions or RSVP’s to Giavanna@vinesgardens.org or call/text 607-218-2043

Shift 1: 12:30- 4:00pm:
Volunteers will prepare, cook, and assemble food for the community meal, set tables, and conduct other dinner preparation activities as assigned by the volunteer coordinator.

Shift 2: 4:30- 7:00pm:
Volunteers will serve meals in the dining room, run dishes back to the kitchen, serve beverages, and assist with cleanup. This is a fast paced, community engaging shift.
