Hardening off Brassicas

Now that you have started your seedlings from the brassica family (cabbage, kale, broccoli, kohlrabi, cauliflower, collards, and brussels sprouts) indoors, it’s time to harden your 3 to 6 inch seedlings by temporarily moving them outdoors so that they will get used to natural daylight and temperature fluctuations; as well as prevent the plants from going into total shock once they are put into the ground.

Make sure to get your soil ready, measure out plant placement, and wait until your seedlings have established their second set of leaves before transplanting into your garden. Organic Authority has more information on how to harden off brassicas!

VINES offers Gardening 101 workshops on how to plan your garden with information about spacing, design, sun/shade exposure, when and where to plant certain crops, managing pests, caring for your soil, and much more.

Happy Hardening!
