Planting Garlic

Garlic is a delicious and hardy crop that requires relatively low effort to produce a bountiful harvest!

Here’s a few important tips to remember when planting garlic:

  • Source garlic from a local farmer, nursery or reliable website, store bought supermarket might not be suitable for this climate
  • Make sure to plant your cloves with the pointy side up and the root side facing down
  • Plant cloves in 2 inch holes spaced 4 inches apart from each other
  • Hardneck garlic tolerates the cold and so it is more suitable for zone 5b than other varieties
  • Mulching will hinder weed growth and help with moisture retention
  • Water deeply about once a week, don’t over or under water
