VINES Launches it’s 2012 Green Thumb and Harvest Kitchen Educational Series


VINES is launching its 2012 Green Thumb and Harvest Kitchen Educational Series.  The first workshop, Vegetable Gardening 101, is being offered Wednesday February 22nd at 6pm in the Exhibit Room of the Broome County Library. Renee Schloupt, master gardener, will discuss garden planning, building raised beds and planting and cultivating your vegetable garden.

The second workshop on Raised Garden Bed Planning being held on March 17th at 1:30pm and again on April 9th at 6pm in the Broome County Public Library.  A brief overview of the basics of square foot gardening will be covered at this event, and the remainder of the time will be used for participants to map out their own garden beds and to develop their personal planting schedule.  Participants for this event should bring paper, ruler, a writing utensil, and the dimensions of their raised garden bed.

Additional spring workshops to come include:

  • Seed Starting: March 31st at 1pm in the Binghamton Urban Farm greenhouse, 16 Tudor St
  • Composting and Soil Improvement: April 14th at 1:30pm in the Exhibit Room of the Broome County Public Library
  • Square Foot Gardening: May 22nd at 6pm in the Decker Room of the Broome County Public Library

Participants of these workshops will also learn about how they can get garden plot at a local community garden.
