February ’11

We are launching our 2011 Green Thumb and Harvest Kitchen Educational Series!
The first workshop, Vegetable Gardening 101, is being offered Wednesday February 23rd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in the Decker Room of the Broome County Library. Renee Schloupt, master gardener, will discuss garden planning, building raised beds and planting and cultivating your vegetable garden. Participants will learn more about how to get a plot at a local community garden or can bring a map of their garden spaces for help in planning their own garden.

The second workshop on Seedling Starting is being held on March 5th from 1pm-2:30pm in the Binghamton Urban Farm greenhouse, located at 16 Tudor St in Binghamton. This hands-on workshop will teach participants the basics of starting their own transplants from seed. This workshop will cover the why, where, and how of seed starting. You will learn about various methods, including using soil blocks, as well as low cost options. Seed planting techniques will be demonstrated and there will be an opportunity for you to get your hands dirty. This workshop is held in the greenhouse, so be sure to bundle up. Space will be limited for this workshop. Register ahead by emailing vinesvolunteers::at::gmail.com or calling 607-205-8108.

Future workshops will cover composting and organic soil improvement, canning and other food preservation techniques, season extension methods, and cooking with garden fresh vegetables.
