Putting the Garden to Bed

Brrr! Winter is just around the corner-–it’s time to put your garden to bed before it gets too chilly.

Harvest as much as you can before it’s too late, especially tender crops like tomatoes and zucchini, which do not tolerate frost well.

Plants that can overwinter are fine to leave planted, but make sure to clear out your garden of all annuals plants to avoid risk of disease in the future. You can add compost, manure, and mulch to boost soil fertility and protect against erosion over the winter

It’s also a good idea to consider testing your soil in the fall, this gives you plenty of time to make soil amendments before next spring if needed.
