Ingredients
- Apples, sliced thin 4 apples
- Brown sugar ¼ cup
- Granulated sugar 2 Tbsp + ¼ cup
- All-purpose flour 3 Tbsp + 1 cup
- Lemon juice 1 Tbsp
- Vanilla extract 2 Tsp + 2 Tsp
- Ground cinnamon 1 Tsp
- Ground ginger ½ Tsp
- Ground cloves, a teeny pinch
- Baking powder 2 Tsp
- Salt ¼ Tsp
- Whole milk ¾ cup
- Unsalted butter, melted 6 Tbsp
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a baking casserole dish and then set aside.
- In a large bowl, add the sliced apples, brown sugar, sugar (2 Tbsp), flour (3 Tbsp), lemon juice, vanilla (2 Tsp) and spices (cinnamon, ginger, and cloves). Toss it all together until combined. Add the filling to your prepared baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour (1 cup), baking powder, salt and sugar (1/4 cup). Add the milk, butter and vanilla (2 Tsp); mix until combined. Pour the topping on top of the filling. It’s ok if some of the filling is peaking through or it’s not a totally perfect on top. Then transfer to the oven to bake for about 40 to 45 minutes, until the filling is bubbling and the top is golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and serve warm with cold vanilla ice cream, if desired.
