Composting in Winter


Composting is one of the best things you can do for your garden and the environment. During the frozen months of winter, it can be challenging to keep your heap thriving. We have gathered a few resources to assist you as you navigate this tricky time of year.

In addition to traditional compost heaps, there are a couple of options for indoor composting, which can be useful through the winter months. These are vermicomposting (using worms) and the Bokashi system. Although these two options require some additional set up (and, possibly, purchases), they can be an excellent addition to any compost regimen with multiple benefits.
